Field Trips to the Farm
'Growing Healthy Kids' Program
Bay Point Schools Eligible, Grades 3 - 5, by Sign-up (January – March)
Growing Healthy Kids is pleased to offer elementary school students from Bay Point Elementary Schools free 4-hour field trips to the beautiful Pacifica Garden Farm! Field trip season goes from January to March, and trips are run by a talented team of Growing Healthy Kids Garden Educators.
Field Trips with Growing Healthy Kids are a tested program that offer students an opportunity to learn about the environment and practice environmental stewardship. In prior years, field trips were hosted at the 2.25 acre permaculture garden at Riverview Middle School. This year, we are proud that the Pacifica Garden Farm has grown to a place where it is able to host students for field trips.
Field trips include:
Hands-on Learning: Field trips offer an extended 3 – 4-hour outdoor education experience, centering the farm’s core principals of Habitat Restoration, Community, Ecological Agriculture, and Outdoor Education.
Farm to School Harvest: Students harvest food from the farm and bring it directly to the Rio Vista Cafeteria!
Pizza Making: An opportunity to practice cooking with farm fresh veggies by making their very own garden pizza in Growing Healthy Kids' outdoor pizza oven!
The Field Trips to the Farm program is funded by a generous grant from the California Department of Food and Agriculture, and run in partnership with the Mt. Diablo Unified School District.
