Growing Healthy Kids
Cherise Khaund is a Mt Diablo Unified School District parent who currently works as a field representative for State Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan and is an appointed member of the City of Walnut Creek Planning Commission.
Cherise thrives on bringing people together to get things done. As a parent leader, she led a coalition to create safe routes for kids to walk and bike to school, and launched a districtwide nonprofit education foundation. In 2018 she co-managed the successful Measure J school bond campaign and was elected to the Mt Diablo School Board. She led the Contra Costa County School Board Association as President from 2020-22, and was re-elected to Mt. Diablo school board in 2022.
In her tenure on the school board, Cherise served as President, navigated the global pandemic, and championed board initiatives such as healthy outdoor garden learning spaces, raises for teachers & staff, adding student representation to the board, and improving district communication in all languages.
She holds a BS in Electrical Engineering and a Masters in Public Administration. Cherise and her husband Sandy live in Walnut Creek with their younger daughter (a senior at Northgate High), their dog Tigerlily, a plum tree and a vegetable garden. (Their older teen graduated from Ygnacio Valley High and now attends Georgetown University.) The family raised chickens from 2020-2023, but now instead buys fresh eggs from a neighbor.
