Frith O'Steen

With 30 years experience in education, Frith O’Steen (“Ms. O” to her students) believes kids are natural born scientists. In the garden at Valle Verde Elementary, she is amazed to watch students make discoveries, build self-confidence, and show care to the natural world and each other. Before working with Growing Healthy Kids, Frith taught in preschool, elementary, middle school, and college classrooms. When Frith’s 4 sons attended cooperative preschool, she saw firsthand the joy of discovery that happens when children are given the chance to learn in outdoor classrooms at school. She believes all children deserve that experience.

Frith’s past experience supporting traditionally underserved student populations guides her approach to creating learning environments, lesson plans, and curriculum that are inclusive and uplifting for all students. She has her B.A. from UCSD, and an Ed.M from Oregon State University. A Bay Area native, Frith enjoys reading, going on walks with her family, and visiting the National Parks!
