Life Lab Certified Garden Educator & Transition Team Member
Shore Acres Elementary
Jessie Lawson has dedicated herself to early childhood education since her teen years. As a Montessori teacher for 21 years, Jessie cultivated learning environments for kids that center exploration, curiosity, and student autonomy. Now, Jessie is the Life Lab Certified garden educator at Shore Acres Elementary in Bay Point! For three years at Shore Acres, Jessie has fostered beautiful connections and learning in the garden. She especially loves planting her favorite flowers, sunflowers, with students and watching them grow! Community members know they can count on Jessie to make their experiences at school special and full of joy.
Jessie is a bilingual educator fluent in Spanish with an Associate Teacher Credential from Diablo Valley College and a Montessori Credential from Contra Costa College. She is committed to making sure lessons are developmentally and culturally well-suited to the different ages and demographics of students served by Growing Healthy Kids. This includes work developing culturally responsive recipes for class, offering instruction in English and Spanish, and translating materials to ensure Growing Healthy Kids programs are accessible to Spanish speakers. Outside her work in education, Jessie loves cheering on her son at sports (baseball, flag football, swim, and basketball), spending time with her family Shitzu, Daisy, and going glamping with her family!
