Sabine Kroeber
Garden Educator
Highlands Elementary
Sabine Kroeber grew up in Germany, where she began her career in public relations and habitat restoration with a nonprofit nature organization. She has always been fascinated by plants, their relationships with insects, and the intricate balance of ecosystems.
After moving to the Bay Area, Sabine worked for a decade in the computer lab at Valle Verde Elementary while raising her three children within MDUSD. As much as she loved her work in the lab, she often felt that students felt more empowered examining dirt on the playground or counting ladybugs. Her work gradually shifted toward garden and nature education, from 2021 – 2024 she lived in Germany leading urban green city tours and helping to revive a school garden. She will start her training with the UC Master Gardeners in the fall of 2025 to further deepen her gardening knowledge.
Sabine believes that gardens and wild spaces are powerful classrooms that spark curiosity, confidence, and care for the planet. Outside of her teaching work, she enjoys volunteering with the Walnut Creek Open Space Foundation, birdwatching, gardening, and taking her dog Bacon on walks.
