Valeria Tinoco
Garden Educator
Bancroft Elementary
Valeria, an immigrant from Peru, is deeply connected to their Andean heritage, descending from a Quechua grandmother from Pomabamba and Huaraz. They are a dedicated herbalist and land steward, committed to growing Andean foods and plants that are hard to find in the US. As an outdoor and nature educator, Valeria specializes in working with neurodivergent children, creating inclusive and enriching nature experiences that connects bipoc youth to the land (operating on occupied Chochenyo Ohlone Land). They have organized local food distribution groups and continue to feed the community with Rogers & Rosewater, an Oakland-based mutual aid group.
